Who do you turn to?

We are constantly making decisions about whether or not we trust people in our lives, and even more importantly, who we trust for what.

Trust, after all, is circumstantial.

You wouldn't necessarily trust the same person who built your house, to create a nutrition plan for you.

You'd hire a specialist for each one.

You wouldn't trust a personal trainer who has never worked out, or who can't manage their own health.

You wouldn't trust a financial advisor who cannot get their own finances in order.

You wouldn't trust the bookkeeper at the auto shop to fix your car.

And yet…

So often, we find ourselves being influenced by advice from people in our lives that we wouldn't trade places with (in the area that they're advising us).

"My aunt Phyllis who's been divorced 45 times is my new dating coach."

"My friend Stephen who hasn't held a job for more than 3 months is helping me tweak my LinkedIn profile."

…mmmm…maybe not the best idea to trust these specific people with these specific things. They could have the best of intentions, but not the best of advice.

BUT - Maybe Phyllis is financially successful, and Stephen is in a decades-long thriving marriage, so they should switch roles in your life.

Just because you don't trust someone in one area of life doesn't mean they can't bring the thunder in another area of life.

So - what am I getting at here?
