The question was raised at the Democratic National Convention that night between Tim Kaine's wife, former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell—whom she called "the best female president" in the history of television—and Hillary Clinton's running mate; Bill Clinton's running mate, Senator Paul Sanders. "The question [the Clinton campaign had] is more important now than how much more you support [Hillary Clinton]," said one Democratic operative who attended the convention. "Let's watch the Clinton campaign for a moment and just talk about the Clinton-Sanders ticket."
A few Republican-leaning activists on the left, including former Iowa senator Joni Ernst, were furious that Kaine didn't tell the truth, particularly about Clinton's emails. "[As it was] a matter of personal and political integrity, she should not be out there having to say that about anybody," they said in an interview from Iowa. "That guy really doesn't make a lot of sense. He doesn't have the courage to tell her anything about what his campaign is doing, all that matters, especially her message about a rigged campaign."
The Sanders campaign, meanwhile, released a statement that its campaign hadn't received any emails from Clinton, but added, "We did not receive any emails from any of the Democratic campaign or the Clinton Campaign.

At the time, some of the Democrats said they hoped Democrats would move toward a plan to replace the health care law.
Now, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus has weighed in on the matter.
"Obviously we hope to get the word out to Americans that, at some point from this morning, they will have our support (on health care) and will continue to do so because we support and will seek to get the health law off of the table," he told CBS' Face the Nation.
He also said there would be "substantial political benefits" for the party if Trump was to follow through on his campaign promise.
Priebus said he had some conversations with Speaker Paul D. Ryan on Saturday. It is not as though there are any serious questions about this. "Yes we intend for this to be a bipartisan process with Senate Republicans voting against doing anything that is going to compromise on the individual mandate," he said.
